Become a Grow for Life Trainee

Come and garden with us! Join our friendly team of gardeners and learn new gardening and social skills as you help look after beautiful gardens in Bath.

It’s fun, it’s safe and it’s also free! No previous experience is required.

“I have particularly enjoyed meeting new people which has given me confidence in every area of my life.

I was completely isolated and now I am feeling I want to go out.”

You will join a small group of trainees and Grow for Life team members for fun and informal weekly sessions. You’ll work alongside our experienced and friendly gardeners and mentors who will supervise and encourage you.

A typical session lasts 3 hours with a break in the middle for refreshments. This is an important part of the session when we chat and share, offering a listening ear and encouragement.

There is also an option to join a work-focused group that operates from greenhouses in the Royal Victoria Parks Nurseries in the centre of Bath. Here you will learn nursery and gardening skills and have the opportunity to gain a City & Guilds Level 1 qualification in practical horticulture.

We welcome men and women aged 18 and over. We currently have trainees aged between 18 and 60.

Our trainees are normally referred to us by their GP, a mental health practitioner or another professional.

Want to find out more? We’d love to hear from you! Get in touch and we’ll arrange a time to meet you for a chat over coffee.

Thinking of Joining Us?

“Come along and try it!

You can come just once, or come often.

It’s just a space where you can be yourself. It’s really easy going and laid back. You don’t have to talk unless you want to. You can just watch to start with."

"I would say just give it a go! Just turn up.

Don’t worry if you want to hang back at first and see what happens. It’s very relaxed.

Just have a go. Then come back again and again. You’ll fit right in!

The team couldn’t be better! They’re brilliant. They’re very approachable people who are very kind and understanding and patient.”

"Grow for Life sessions are a perfect way to build skills you need in work, like team work, confidence and being on time. So you don’t have to come along thinking you want to be a horticulturalist.

Grow for Life is a stepping stone."
