Become a Grow for Life Gardener

It’s fun, it’s safe and it’s also free! No previous experience is required.

You will join a small group of new gardeners and Grow for Life team members for fun and informal weekly sessions. You’ll work alongside our experienced and friendly horticulturalist and mentor volunteers who will supervise and encourage you.

A typical session lasts 3 hours with a break in the middle for refreshments. This is an important part of the session when we chat and share, offering a listening ear and encouragement.

There is also an option to join a work-focused group that operates across Bath working in various host gardens.

We welcome men and women aged 18 and over. We currently have gardeners aged between 18 and 60.

Our gardeners are normally referred to us by their GP, a mental health practitioner or another professional.

“I have particularly enjoyed meeting new people which has given me confidence in every area of my life.

I was completely isolated and now I am feeling I want to go out.”

“Come along and try it!

You can come just once, or come often.

It’s just a space where you can be yourself. It’s really easy going and laid back. You don’t have to talk unless you want to. You can just watch to start with."

Eleanor, Grow for Life staff member

"I would say just give it a go! Just turn up.

Don’t worry if you want to hang back at first and see what happens. It’s very relaxed.

Just have a go. Then come back again and again. You’ll fit right in!

The team couldn’t be better! They’re brilliant. They’re very approachable people who are very kind and understanding and patient.”

"Grow for Life sessions are a perfect way to build skills you need in work, like team work, confidence and being on time. So you don’t have to come along thinking you want to be a horticulturalist.

Grow for Life is a stepping stone."
