Week with Grow for Life (28/4 - 11/5)

Welcome back to the weekly blog!

These past two weeks have been an exciting time for us at Grow for Life as we prepare for our upcoming Open Days on the 16th and 17th of May from 10 - 4pm! You can find out more information in the poster below.

Tuesday's

After 12 wonderful weeks of plant facts, green thumbs, and sunny park walks, we’ve said goodbye (for now!) to our Tuesday gardeners.

We explored the culinary and medicinal uses of aromatic Bay (Laurus nobilis), mighty Ash (Fraxinus excelsior), and the elegant Maidenhair tree (Ginkgo biloba) — each steeped in rich symbolism and mythology 🌿✨

For our hands-on activity, we pricked out spearmint and Pomodoro tomatoes, and potted up Alyssum flowers for the Bath Parks team 🌱

Wednesday's

Over the last fortnight our Wednesday group has travelled to Prior Park Gardens to focus on weeding a pathway, including the edge of shrub beds, as well as spending a lot of time admiring the view and hearing the wildlife.

Some of us even spotted a kingfisher at the start of the session!

We then headed to a private client's tropical garden where the focus was on hedge trimming, planting out, as well as dividing and removing a couple of the plants

We were kindly blessed with lots of biscuits and cake at the tea break, and the dog Alfie wanted us to throw his toy for most the session!

Thursday's

This week in our Thursday social therapeutic horticulture session, we baked in the heat and sunshine at our lovely Walled Garden

It was a busy morning earthing up our first early potatoes, planting out beets, pricking out cosmos and potting up Physalis (also known as Peruvian Groundcherry or Cape Gooseberry)

We have so many! There will be lots of spares for sale at our Open Days on the 16th and 17th May! 🌱🌸🐞🥔
