It was a lovely afternoon for our Wednesday group as we returned to a garden in Saltford. Our host was ready with a wide variety of interesting tasks to help give her garden a lift and also a fabulous array of home made cakes to give us a lift in our break time!
With the compost heap ready for attention it was great that we had a pitch fork with us to make lighter work of it. We dug out the remaining compost from one heap and then turned the second heap onto it.
Around and behind the shed we raked up fine twigs and leaf mould, fallen over time, from the silver birch tree above. All great for the compost heap!
We dug out and cleared some serious brambles by the house. Fortunately we were able to use a shredder so this could be finely chopped and added to the compost heap too.
In the meantime a group cleared two areas for borders and planted a couple of weigelas, grown from cuttings, and some lily of the valley which should do well in the north facing spot.
After our relaxing tea break (complete with a choice of delicious apple cake, chocolate brownie, courgette cake and carrot cake 😋) we had the soothing task of pruning a large lavender bush; saving the seed heads 🪻 which will be turned into lavender bags in the coming months.
We all had a great time and our host was so delighted with all we had done 😊
